This new feature will continue to appear on the website in 2008 until it is made permanent. The knowledge network is offering a new medium through which well-known academics can present and spread their knowledge from various fields and current topics to interested parties in 30-minute video segments.

“Since 2001, Lalisio has continued to offer students, professors and scholars the ability to find, share and network knowledge”, explains Ute Rother, Managing Director of Lalisio GmbH. “We want to support and expand our goals with this new lecture series. Our lecturers are able to directly reach an interested academic audience through modern web casting technology – making the exchange and expansion of knowledge even more simple and efficient.

The first Lalisio web cast on onomatology

Lalisio will present an exclusive lecture on the topic of onomatology by Dr. Udolph on December 19th. The 30-minute web cast, divided into three parts, will only be accessible on this day from 10am to 8pm at www.lalisio.com/webcast.

The lecture will be enjoyable and entertaining with exemplary analyses of quaint – and fitting for the season – Christmas names. In the first part of the lecture, Dr. Udolph outlines the topic of onomatology and continues in the second part by explaining the names of places and bodies of water. In the third part, he addresses family names and advises viewers on how they can apply onomastic methods to their own history.

Is it really worth envying Mrs. Sorgenfrei (Carefree) from Heiligeland (Saintland)?

Dr. Udolph has been searching for the secrets of place and family names for more than 30 years. As Germany’s only professor, he has taught at the University of Leipzig since 2000. His expertise is recognized all across Europe. Dr. Udolph examines what names can tell us about our careers, ancestry and ancestors. He finds answer to questions such as, why is “Heiligeland” in Mecklenburg of all places? Or, does Mr. Schiller owe his name to a cross-eyed ancestor? The first exciting glimpses into Dr. Udolph’s work are now available at Lalisio.

Lalisio users can now send their questions about onomatology into lalisio.com and simultaneous choose their favorite six from a list of all the submitted questions. Three participating members will receive a personal analysis of their names. Answers to the six most popular questions will appear on the web cast on December 19th, 2007.
