Our international knowledge network enables scholars worldwide to present themselves, exchange “Gray Literature” and create personalized networks for sharing and accessing knowledge.
Are these services free?
Yes, membership is completely free of charge.
How do I activate JavaScript in my browser?
In order to more efficiently use Lalisio, you must activate JavaScript in your browser. You can do so by following these steps:

Internet Explorer (6.0 and on)
1. Select “Tools” from the top menu.
2. Choose ”Internet Options”.
3. Click on the “Security” tab.
4. Click on “Custom Level”.
5. Scroll down till you see the section labeled “Scripting”.
6. Under “Active Scripting”, select “Enable” and click “OK”.

Netscape Navigator (4.8)
1. Select “Edit” from the top menu.
2. Choose “Preferences”.
3. Choose “Advanced”.
4. Choose “Scripts & Plugins”.
5. Select the “Enable JavaScript” checkbox and click “OK”.

Mozilla Firefox (1.0)
1. Select “Tools” from the top menu.
2. Choose “Options”.
3. Choose “Web Features” from the left navigation.
4. Select the “Enable JavaScript” checkbox and click “OK”.

Mozilla Firefox (1.5 and on)

Registration

How can I register at Lalisio?
You can access the registration form under the “Register” link. We will then send an activation link to your e-mail address. By clicking on this link, your registration process will be completed.
I have not received the e-mail with the activation link. What should I do?
  • Please check your spam folder first. Our e-mail might have been blocked by your spam filter.
  • Alternatively, you can click on the link "I did not receive an e-mail". On the following page you can check and, if necessary, correct your e-mail address. We will then send another e-mail to you.
  • If the suggestions above do not solve your problem, please contact us.
Why is my college/university/institute not listed?
If your academic institution is not listed, you can type its full name into the field provided. It will then be added to our database.
Can I change my registration details later?
Yes, you can change your personal data at any time. Use the "My Account" and "My Profile" sections to do so.

Login

How can I log into Lalisio?
You have to register first. For more details, read the section on "Registration".
Why does my login not work?
If your login does not work, the following might have occurred:
  • You might be a member of Lalisio Classic. Unfortunately, your Lalisio Classic login is not valid for our new network. Please register again.
  • Your browser might not accept cookies and lose your login information. Please check your browser settings and enable cookies. You can find these settings:
    • in Internet Explorer under Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced
    • in Mozilla Firefox under Tools/Options/Privacy/Cookies
  • If you are trying to access Lalisio through a network, their configuration (for example, proxy servers) might be blocking cookies. Please, ask your network administrator for help.
  • You might have entered your e-mail address and password incorrectly. The login fields are case sensitive, your CAPS LOCK might be pressed.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
There is a link under the login section on the Lalisio start page called “Forgot Password?”. Click on this link and enter your valid e-mail address. You will then receive an e-mail from us with a link which you can use to enter a new password. Please be aware that the link is only active for one hour.
I entered my login data correctly, but it still doesn't work. What can I do?
Make sure your browser accepts cookies. Otherwise, your login information might get lost. Check your browser settings to enable cookies. You can find these settings:
  • in Internet Explorer under Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced
  • in Mozilla Firefox under Tools/Options/Privacy/Cookies
If you are trying to access Lalisio through a network their configuration (for example, proxy servers) might be blocking cookies. Please ask your network administrator for help.

Account

How do I change my password?
In order to change your password, you must first log into Lalisio. On your homepage, you will find a collection of links at the bottom with the link “Settings”. Click on that link in order to reach your account settings page. There you will be able to enter your new password though the link “Change Password”.
Why couldn't I change my password?
Only letters and/or numbers are accepted. Please, check that you haven't accidentally pressed CAPS LOCK, when entering your password.
How can I change my e-mail address?
In order to change your e-mail address, you must first log into Lalisio. On your homepage, you will find a collection of links at the bottom with the link “Settings”. Click on that link in order to reach your account settings page. There you will be able to enter your new e-mail address though the link “Change E-mail Address”.
You will then receive an e-mail from us to your new address. Follow the link in the e-mail to confirm your new e-mail address. Your new e-mail address will not take effect until you click on this link.
How can I turn off e-mails from Lalisio?
In order to turn off e-mails from Lalisio, you must first log into Lalisio. On your homepage, you will find a collection of links at the bottom with the link “Settings”. Click on that link in order to reach your account settings page. At the bottom of this page, you can turn off e-mails from Lalisio.
How can I delete my account?
In order to delete your account, you must first log into Lalisio. On your homepage, you will find a collection of links at the bottom with the link “Settings”. At the bottom of the settings page, you will find a link called “Delete Account”. Please be aware that by clicking on this link and following the corresponding steps you will permanently delete all your data on Lalisio.com. This process may take a certain amount of time to be completed. If you would like to register with Lalisio again, you can do so at anytime.
Who can see the information in my profile?
All information on your profile can only be seen by other Lalisio members. In order to protect your privacy, you can decide whether or not other members may see your contact information (address, telephone number, e-mail address). You can change these settings under the “Privacy” tab on the “Settings” page.
I have discovered members who distribute offensive material. What can I do?
Please inform us, if you discover any members who distribute offensive material. Use the function "Report member" in the profile of that member. We will examine the member an, if necessary, take further steps.

Profile

Can I change my profile entries later?
Yes. You can change your profile entries later. Click on the “Edit Profile” link at the bottom of your profile page or in the collection of links at the bottom of the page. You can also quickly edit specific parts of your profile by clicking on the edit symbol next to the corresponding section on your profile.
What is the function of "Published Books" in the section "Publications?
You can enter books you have already published. This information will then be linked to our literature search engine, so that other members can find them more easily and order them through our partners.
Why did my picture disappear?
Lalisio checks whether pictures infringe upon copyrights or have indecent content. If this is the case, the picture will be removed and the member will be notified via e-mail.
How can I place a link to my Lalisio profile on my homepage, blog or into my e-mail signature?
Under the link “Share my Profile”, you will find a URL for your profile. Copy this URL and paste it into the source code of your homepage, blog or e-mail signature.

Gray Literature

What is Gray Literature?
Gray Literature is not officially published material like working papers, theses, dissertations, institutional publications, course material or conference papers.
How can I upload Gray Literature?
In order to upload your gray literature, you must first log into Lalisio. In the “Literature” section or in the collection of links at the bottom of the page, you will find the link “Upload Gray Literature”. By following the three corresponding steps, you will be able to upload your gray literature and allow other members to download it. Your gray literature will be published as soon as all three steps have been completed.
Why is my gray literature separated into the categories “published” and “unpublished”?
To share your Gray Literature with other members, you have to complete all three upload steps. If one of these steps has not been completed, your Gray Literature will remain unpublished. This means it can neither be downloaded nor seen by other members. To publish your Gray Literature, you have to repeat the process and make sure that all three steps have successfully been completed.
Does Lalisio check the content of Gray Literature?
Lalisio will randomly sample Gray Literature. All published materials can and will be checked by other members who may report material to us that does not respect our Terms of Use.
How does Lalisio handle the publication rights of Gray Literature?
Authors provide Lalisio with a non-exclusive right to make their Gray Literature available for download free of charge to other members. Please see our Terms of Use for more details.
What happens if someone publishes previously published material on Lalisio?
Lalisio will check these files and delete them, if necessary. The member who uploaded these files will be notified and if he/she violates copyrights again, his/her account will be deleted.
Can I change or delete material I have uploaded?
Yes, you can change or delete your Gray Literature at any time.
Can other members change or delete my Gray Literature?
No, only the member that uploaded the file can also change or delete it.
What can I do if I discover Gray Literature that violates copyrights or the Terms of Use of Lalisio?
Please inform us, if you discover any Gray Literature, which violates copyrights or the Terms of Use of Lalisio. Use the function "Report member" in the profile of that member. We will examine the material and, if necessary, take further steps.
How long will Gray Literature be available on Lalisio?
As long as members themselves do not delete their Gray Literature documents, they will remain available for downloads. If a document, however, violates copyrights or the Terms of Use of Lalisio, it can be deleted by Lalisio at any time.
What is the maximum file size?
There are no limits to the size of a file. But please keep in mind that the up- and download speed depends on the size of your file.
What types of files can be used?
There are no restrictions regarding file types. If possible, however, use common file types like PDFs or DOCs. If you would like to upload several files, please zip them first.
How many files can I upload?
There are no restrictions regarding the number of files. You can upload as many files as you like.
Why does it take so long to upload my files?
The time necessary to upload a file depends on your Internet connection and on the size of each file. You can cancel the upload process at any time. Then, decrease the file size (for example, by zipping the file) and try again.
What does “Forward” mean?
This function gives you the ability to pass interesting gray literature onto your contacts. You can also write a message to send with the link. Any message exchange is only visible to you and the recipient and will not be publicly displayed. Your sent and received messages pertaining to the gray literature can be found under the corresponding gray literature, as well as in your inbox and outbox.
What does “Remember” mean?
Have you found a document that you don’t want to download right away but would like to reference again later? Click on “Remember”. The document will be noted in the “Literature” section under “Remembered”. You can then download the document at anytime.

Recommendations

What are recommendations?
The recommendations area allows you to create recommendations lists about your various research and academic topics. These lists will help other Lalisio users find interesting publications, Internet sites and events and spread knowledge. Consequently, you will be able to look at recommendations lists on other users’ profiles and get useful tips and resources for your own academic work.
How do I add a recommendation list?
In the “Edit Profile” section under the “Recommendations” tab, you can add recommendation lists. After clicking on the “Recommendations” tab, you will find an “Add Recommendation List” link on the right side of the page. Enter a title and description for your list. Depending on whether you would like to recommend literature, web pages or events, you will be able to enter the corresponding ISBN, URL or a text. You can publish the list by clicking on “Save Changes”. The list can now be found under the “Recommendations” tab on your profile.
How can I edit a recommendation list?
Your recommendation lists can be found in both the “Edit Profile” section and under the “Recommendations” tab on your profile. Click on the “Edit list” link in the title bar of the list you wish to edit. From the following page, you will be able to make changes to your recommendation list. You can finalize the changes by clicking on “Save Changes”.
How can I add recommendations to a pre-existing list?
Your recommendation lists can be found in both the “Edit Profile” section and under the “Recommendations” tab on your profile. Click on the link “Add recommendation” in the title bar of the list you wish to add a recommendation to. On the following page, you will be able to enter an ISBN, URL or a text with an accompanying description. By clicking on “Add”, the recommendation will be entered into the list.
How can I delete a recommendation list?
Your recommendation lists can be found in both the “Edit Profile” section and under the “Recommendations” tab on your profile. Click on the link “Delete list” in the title bar of the list you wish to delete. Confirm that you want to delete the recommendation list.
Please be aware that all content within the recommendation list will be deleted as well.
How can I delete single recommendations from a list?
Your recommendation lists can be found in both the “Edit Profile” section and under the “Recommendations” tab on your profile. Click on the Link “Delete” next to the corresponding recommendation on the following page. Confirm that you want to delete the recommendation.
I would like to recommend a book but do not know the ISBN. What should I do?
You can use our literature search to find the correct ISBN for the book, which you would like to recommend. Click on the “literature search” link when creating your recommendations list and the search engine will appear in a new window. Enter the known information into the search fields (e.g. title or author). You will find the correct ISBN in the search results, which you can then add to your recommendations list.
Why do I only need an ISBN to recommend a book?
Our literature search engine is connected to the numerous online databases of our partner sites. Therefore, corresponding information, such as the title, author and date of publication, will be automatically found and added to the recommendations list, simply by entering the ISBN. Your book recommendation will be visible in the list, including the cover and relevant additional information.
I want to recommend a book. Do I have to enter an ISBN?
No, you can simply write the known information in the given fields.
How can I change the order in which my recommendations lists appear?
Select the “Recommendations” tab in your “Edit My Profile” section or directly on your profile’s main page. Grab the appropriate list by clicking and holding on the title section and then slide it into the desired position (“Drag and Drop”).
If Java Script is not activated in your browser, you can change the order of the lists by using the shown arrows.
How can I change the order of entries within a recommendations list?
Select the “Recommendations” tab in your “Edit My Profile” section or directly on your profile’s main page. Grab the appropriate recommendation by clicking and holding it and then slide it into the desired position within the list (“Drag and Drop”).

Who can see my recommendations?
Your recommendation lists are visible to all members.
How many recommendations lists can I create?
There is no limit to the number of recommendations lists that you create.
How many recommendations can I write into a single list?
There is no limit to the number of recommendations that can appear within a single list.

Groups

How can I create a group?
Click on the “Add Group [+]” tab in the “My Groups” section to create a new group.
What are public groups?
All Lalisio members can join public groups. Group information, forums, documents and recommendations can be viewed by all Lalisio members. Public groups can be found on the profiles of the group’s members and through group searches.
What are protected groups?
Members wishing to join protected groups require the approval of the group’s founder in order to join. The group information of protected groups is visible to all Lalisio members. However, the forums, documents and recommendations are only visible to group members. Protected groups can be found on the group members’ profiles as well as through a group search.
What are private groups?
Private groups do not appear on the group members’ profiles and cannot be found through group searches. They are not visible to other Lalisio members. New members can only join the group when invited by the group’s founder. Group information, forums, documents and recommendations are only visible to group members.
What are group settings?
When creating a new group, the founder can decide whether or not other group members can add documents and/or recommendations. These settings can later be changed in the “Edit Group” section.
How can I join a group?
Groups can either be found on other members’ profiles or through a group search. When you have found a group that you would like to join, click on the “Join Group” link.

Please be aware that you must give a reason for joining a protected group. The group founder will then decide whether or not to make you a member. Lalisio has no influence on this decision.
Why can’t I find some groups though the standard group search?
Only public and protected groups can be found through group searches. Private groups are not accessible through a group search.
Why doesn’t my group membership appear in my profile?
Membership in private groups will not appear in user profiles. They are only visible in your own “My Groups” section.
How can I access my groups?
You will find all of the groups you have created and all the groups you are a member of in the “My Groups” section. You can access the group’s main page by clicking on the title of the group.
How can I invite people to join my group?
There is an “Invite People to Join” link under the picture field on the group’s main page. Here you can find the invitation form, which you can use to invite your contacts or colleagues to join the group.
How can I change the group information?
There is an “Edit Group” link under the picture field on the group’s main page. Here you can change all information that was entered when then group was founded. Only group owners can change group information.
How many groups can I join?
There is no limit to the number of groups you can join.
How can I leave a group?
Click on the “Leave Group” link located under the picture field on the group’s main page. You will then be asked to confirm that you wish to leave the group.
What does “Message All Members” means?
You can simultaneously send a message to all group members on the internal mail system by clicking on the “Message All Members” link. This is useful for setting up meeting times and sending announcements to all group members.
How can I delete a group?
As a group owner, you have the ability to delete an entire group as long as there are no other members in the group. Click on the “Edit Group” link on the group’s main page. Then click on the “Delete Group” button at the bottom of the next page.
What does “Transfer Ownership” mean?
The founder of the group, and therefore its owner, can only delete a group as long as there are no remaining members. If there are still other group members and the owner would like to leave the group, ownership of the group can be transferred to another group member. This is to ensure that there is always a central contact within the group.

In order to transfer ownership of the group, click on the “Edit Group” link under the picture field on the group’s main page. Click on “Transfer Ownership” on the next page. Then choose the member, to whom you wish to transfer group ownership. After you have given a reason for the ownership transfer, click send. The chosen group member will receive a message and can then decide whether or not to accept the transfer. You will later receive a message informing the member’s decision.
What is a moderator?
Moderators manage the group’s forum. When necessary, they lead the discussions in the forum and monitor appropriateness. Furthermore, they can delete topics and entries, which violate Lalisio terms and conditions.
How can I make members moderators or remove them from the position?
You can first access a list of all group members under the “Members” tab on the group’s main page. Then click on the “Edit Members” link in the “Members” title field. Choose members to become moderators from the following page. Click on the “Make Moderator” link next to the corresponding member.

To remove a member from the moderator position, click on the “Remove Moderator” link under the “Edit Members” link next to the corresponding member.
How can I accept/deny membership requests for protected groups?
Click on the “Members” tab on the group’s main page. Here you will find the “Edit Members” link in the “Members” title field. On the following page, you can select users by checking the corresponding boxes. Then click on the appropriate button to accept or deny the membership requests.
How can I remove other members from the group?
You can first access a list of all group members under the “Members” tab on the group’s main page. Then click on the “Edit Members” link in the “Members” title field. On the following page, you can select members by checking the corresponding boxes. Then click on the “Remove” button to end the user’s group membership.
How can I use the group forum?
You can access the forum by clicking on the “Forum” tab on the group’s main page. Here you can find all of the forum topics.

Click on the “New Topic [+]” tab to add a new topic to the forum. Then give the topic a title and enter your post.

Click on the title of a topic to take part in the discussion. On the following page you will see all of the posts on the topic. You can add a new post to the topic by clicking on the “+ Reply” button. You can also directly quote other members’ posts by clicking on the “Cite” link next to the corresponding post.
How can I upload documents into a group?
Select the “Documents” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s documents. Click on the “New Folder [+]” tab on the top right hand side. Through this link you will be able to create a new folder and upload documents into it.
How can I add documents to a pre-existing folder?
Select the “Documents” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s documents. Click on the upload symbol to the right of the title field of the corresponding folder. On the following page you will be able to add a title and description and upload the file. By clicking on the “Add” button, the file will be added to the folder.
How can I remove documents from the group page?
You can first access a list of all documents under the “Documents” tab on the group’s main page. Here you will find all documents organized into one or more folders. Click the “Delete” link next to the document.

Please be aware that you can only delete documents from the group, which you have uploaded. However, the group owner can remove any document from the group.
How can I delete a folder from a group?
Select the “Documents” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s documents. In order to delete the folder, click on the delete symbol to the right of the title field of the corresponding folder.

Please note that all documents within the folder will be deleted as well.
How can I add recommendations to a group?
Select the “Recommendations” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s recommendations. Click on the “Create New List [+]” on the top right hand side. Through this link you will be able to create a new folder and add recommendations to it.
How can I add recommendations to a pre-existing list?
Select the “Recommendations” tab in your “Edit My Profile” section or directly on your profile’s main page. Click on the upload symbol to the right of the title field of the corresponding list. On the following page you will be able to add a URL, ISBN or a descriptive text. By clicking on the “Add” button, the recommendation will be added to the list.
How can I work on recommendations in a group?
Select the “Recommendations” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s recommendations. Click on the “Edit” link to the right of the recommendation. On the following page, you can work on the recommendation and save your changes by clicking on the “Save” button.
How can I delete recommendations from a group?
Select the “Recommendations” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s recommendations. In order to delete the recommendations, click on the "Delete" link to the right of the corresponding recommendations.

Please be aware that you can only delete recommendations from a group that you have uploaded. However, the group owner can delete any recommendation.
How can I delete recommendation lists from a group?
Select the “Recommendations” tab on the group’s main page to find a list of the group’s recommendations. In order to delete an entire list, click on the delete symbol to the right of the title field of the corresponding recommendations list.

Please be aware that by erasing a list, all recommendations within the list will be deleted as well.
